Buying and installing my new winters on Saturday. These ones bellow. Also had to buy damn TPMS' (illegal to disable a vehicle safety feature in Ontario) all tho I did find them on the ebay for a 1/3 of the price. I have used Nokian's before and loved them.

TPMS sucks! Sensors phhht. Plus the batteries die and you will need to replace them every 5 or 6 years anyway. No way to replace the battery? You have to replace the ENTIRE SENSOR? Thanks a lot...

There are other ways to know about a flat tire - GM used to do it by alerting you if one tire was rotating more than 10% off from the other tires. Warning came a little on the late side, but long before you were dragging on the rim. Granted if you let all 4 tires get low it didn't help much, but by then you are in pretty tough shape. One of the things GM did right last decade!

Enjoy your winter tires though. I love them!

Yeah TPMS' are daft, how hard is it for one to check the tire pressure when you fill up the tank every other time? I didn't know GM had that, that was a pretty cool way of doing it.

If it wasn't illegal to not have them I would of just dealt with the idiot light for the winter, of electrical tape.

Ill just keep using ebay for cheap sensors, the ones I got are OEM (FoMoCo) too.

I know for sure GM would alert you for low tire pressure based on rolling RPM comparisons in '98 and used the wheel speed sensor method up through at least '10 or so, when they started using those stupid sensors like everybody else. It's nice to get a readout of the actual pressure, but not worth the added cost and negative of dying batteries IMO.

If they made the sensors actually serviceable with replaceable batteries, I would not be so negative about them. Until that day... TPMS sucks.

I had to replace a sensor on my wife's 08 Passat. Very hard to find the right one aftermarket. Finally found a cheap one, got it in and it was an OEM model with a different vendor's sticker over the OE Bosch/VAG part numbers. I compared it to the broken one and it was literally identical after I peeled the other sticker off, same numbers and all!

Ironically, "What is old is new again." VW switched back to the rolling RPM comparisons a few years ago on the VW/Audi's sold in the US—no more sensors. Makes installing winter rims on the front much easier on my GTI.
